My Food is to do His Will
Scripture
"Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.'" John 4:34
Reflection
Food sustains life. When we're hungry, we think about food. We make time for it, seek it out, and enjoy it because it nourishes us and gives us strength. Yet here Jesus spoke of a different kind of nourishment.
After His encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well, His disciples urged Him to eat. They were focused on physical hunger, but Jesus was focused on something greater. He had just watched the Father draw a thirsty soul toward salvation, and it filled Him with joy. In that moment, Jesus revealed what truly satisfied Him:
"My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work."
Jesus found His deepest fulfillment not in serving Himself, but in serving His Father. As I reflect on those words, I realize that this has become the desire of my own heart as well. Not because of any goodness in me, but because of the transforming power of God at work within me.
I am living proof that God still draws people out of darkness and into His marvelous light. Left to myself, I was pursuing my own desires and walking my own path. But God, in His mercy, pursued me long before I ever sought Him. He opened my eyes to my need for a Savior, drew me to Jesus Christ, and began a work of transformation that continues today.
The miracle isn't only that He saved me. The miracle is that He is changing me. The things I once loved no longer satisfy. The things I once resisted have become my joy. Day by day, He teaches me to love Him more deeply and to love others more sincerely. Day by day, He replaces selfish ambition with eternal purpose. Day by day, He reminds me that life is about far more than my comfort, my plans, or my success. Like Jesus, I want my life to be nourished by doing the Father's will.
That doesn't mean every task is exciting or every day is easy. It means there is a deeper satisfaction available to every believer: the joy of knowing that we are walking with God and participating in what He is doing in the world.
Each morning is an invitation to join Him in His work. Whether we are serving our families, encouraging a friend, sharing the gospel, discipling others, praying, giving, working, or simply obeying Him in the small things, we are participating in His eternal purposes.
The world tells us that fulfillment is found in pursuing ourselves. Jesus tells us that fulfillment is found in pursuing the Father's will.
Personal Challenge
Ask yourself today: What am I feeding my soul? Am I seeking satisfaction primarily from the things of this world, or from walking in obedience to God's purposes? Take one intentional step today to participate in the work He has placed before you.
Prayer
Father, thank You for drawing me to Your Son and for continuing to transform me by Your grace. Teach me to find my satisfaction not in the temporary things of this world, but in doing Your will. Help me to rise each day ready to join You in Your work. May my life bring glory to You and point others to Christ. In Jesus' name, amen.
Just for Eternity: Today, before your feet hit the floor, nourish your soul by saying "yes" to whatever God places before you.
